Met a guy tonight while out on the bike. He has a motorcycle machine shop and does a great deal of business selling chrome parts.
He said he has an chrome exchange program. He would swap out my 09 FLHX stock wheels for stock chromed wheels. Bearings included. $750 and I would have to pay to have them mounted.
Has anyone done this before? Seems like a inexpensive way to put chrome wheels on.
Seems pretty expensive to me. Ive seen better deals. Look around. If you realy like your wheels why not send them out in the winter to be chromed. Ill bet itll be a whole lot cheaper than $750.
I had mine done by Classic Components in Ca. They were $550. They had a faster turn around, better warranty, and cheaper for polishing rotors than Chrome Pros in Texas.
I sent mine to ChromeProsPlating.com.... Both wheels for $550. Great job, no pitting, cracking or peeling in over 3+ years. Doesn't include bearings, but they're cheap.
banks,
From what I have read, without personnel experience, if you have minor imperfection in a cast wheel, the chrome will peel eventually. The fact that not all cast wheels have minor imperfections explains why some will have problems and others will not.
I did get a chromed pulley from www.chromethathog,com, they were not real helpful on the phone but service and quality was impressive. I think $750 is kind of high, and agree there are cheaper places on the net. Having said this fact, I would spend extra for local service, if the warranty is comparable, plus you offset the cost by not paying shipping. The wheel bearing being included and installed just about makes the price even.
watch ebay.. I got a pair of chromed 9 spokes at cheap prices.. Real H/D stuff too.. I did find they had the metric bearings so i had to buy new bearings and pull the spacers from my stock wheels but it still was cheap enuff i just put my old 9 spokes in the attic of the garage and kept them..
SPS plating out of Florida....AWESOME products....super fast delivery...#1 Customer service I think I've ever dealt with.....Around $600. for the 9 spoke wheels.
