I have wondered that too. My next bike will have them.

This was in Indiana and it was not new pavement. Nor was the Church parking lot new. The area also had multiple inches of rain in the previous 24 - 48 hours. I've never seen anything this slick.

You don't think about it at the time. But, I wish I would of grabbed the camera and took some quick pics while all the bikes were spread out on the pavement.

They still use Fresh Oil signs here or Road to be oiled next week but they are actually using tar and chip method!

Should've been no big deal...not a scratch on me, limited sheet metal damage to the Custom. But, for some reason unbeknown to me, I stuck my left knee out to the left as if it were a kick stand prior to impact. 800 lb bike + 260 lb man = left tibia in 30/40 pieces. I'm still on crutches. I've been riding religiously for over 20 years. Time to go back to braking school and practice more...oh yea, I'm positive if I'd had anti-lock brakes I would not have gone down...if a retro abs kit ever comes out, I'll buy/install it.
Front brake at 10 mph, that was your mistake.

That isn't what he said.

Glad everything turned out faily well. No major damage, no major injuries. Your story brings back memories of an incident I barely avoided some time time ago. Seems some teens decided to dump the used oil from a deep frier in the middle of the road. The intent was to improve burn-outs, but it resulted in a number of accidents. Not too long ago we had a pile up similar to yours on the freeway. The first bike went down and three others piled into him before they could stop or avoid the first bike. Not to imply it would have made a difference in your situation, but following too close was a clear contributing factor in the case I described. In fact, the last three accidents involving more than one bike I'm aware of in this area have been related to the following bikes not having enough room to react and wind up crashing into, or because of the bike in front of them going down. Distance is good.

Ya just never know when ya are gonna go down! I have actually had riders tell me that they are so good that they have never been down, and will NEVER go down. I say to them, that is so nice to here.----- Then I turn and walk away and say to myself, Bull Chit and laugh!!

I'm from Las Vegas, we don't get much rain but when it does rain the streets are like black ice, wrecks all over the place. The heat brings the oil up and when mixed with rain it makes for very slick conditions. Good it worked out where no one was hurt bad.
