I am thinking about getting the short windshield for my 05 SEEG. How much wind will it block? Does it give any protection?
NO! But it does make the bug that slams into your face feel better before he dies.
I bought a shorty for my RK and took it off after a couple rides. It pushed the wind, rocks and bugs right into my face. They look cool; especially the dark tinted one, but are just about impractical for anything but riding around town.
Just took my short tinted windshield off my SERK . . . the little windshield not only gave me bug teeth and a splattered face, the bugs that hit the shorty rolled up the windshiled and splashed me with their juices!
Got a tall clear lexan windshield and put it on . . . best day of riding since I bought the scoot . . . no bugs in my face, not to mention the rock off of a semi that hit the shield where there would have been no shorty!
Sort of depends on what you mean by "short" -- I like looking over w/option to duck down if needed. Wound up with a 10" and I'm pretty happy with it. I've got 9's, 8's, 6's and the stock SG 4" (worthless hunk of plastic) along with a couple 12's that I really don't use anymore since the 10" (LongRide, for the record).
I ran a 6" clearview on my last e-glide for many years. I liked it a lot. On the 03 I just picked up I have a 4" and it sucks. I have a 6" windvest on order. BTW im 6'2" I think a 6-8" would give you enough protection as long as it has the curved top.
the stock streetglide windshield looks way too cool on the showroom floor. and it's the first thing that needs replacing with a real windshield. i used the 9-1/2" short version for the electraglide on mine, and at 6'4" tall, it worked out great. i look over it by about an inch and a half or two inches. just right to where the wind blast barely touches the top of my helmet, then last week i installed a new longride windshield, the 10" one. medium gray tint. wow, amazing windshield. looks way cool, stealth like with the flip, and the gray tint. and i can see through it at nite enough to where it's safe, although i do look over it by about the same amount as the low version of the harley electraglide windshield. i changed out my streetglide seat for a roadglide seat, which raised me an inch and a half approximately, so the long ride windshield is just right. short windshields i guess would be okay for 'round town, but if you wanna ride, you need something that is more realistic. my three cents worth anyway. long ride shields is a site sponsor here too. much nicer and cooler, and far cheaper than harleys stock windshields too. check em out, fantastic quality as well. all pros, and no cons are my thoughts of the long ride shields.

Agreed on all points. I run the 9 1/2 on my glide as well. The short one is in a box in the garage.
