Hi - not living near any dealers (100 miles) I am seeking advice on wiring-up a front fender-tip light on my 2009 RK classic. When the blank chrome-tip got stone-chip damage I thought I'd like to personalise it a bit with a lamp and a fender rail. I am about to order the lamp assembly #68706-00 and will probably need the harness also mentioned (but not pictured) #70196-00 I believe. I thought it would be fairly simple, but I'm having difficulty getting clear advice from parts suppliers. I looked in the rear of my headlamp and found a two-wired blank-ended connector - with one black, and one red-with-2 white stripes wire. Is this the place to connect the tiplight? I suppose a wiring diagram would help but the basic manual doesn't have one in it. Is there one somebody could email me...I expect most touring models are similar? Also how do you route the cable under the fender itself. I see a hole in one side behind the discbrake to pass it trhrough, but I'm not clear how the cabling runs on the underside of the fender and there isn't a lot of room to work between the tire and the fender? Has anyone done this themselves? Any help very much appreciated.

My wiring diagram shows orange/white and black wire going to the tip light connector inside the fairing. A red/white wire goes from the ECM to the hand throttle so it should not be in the area of the headlamp. The tip connector should be near the headlamp and you should be able to access it by removing the head lamp. I guess it could appear red. If the tip light connector fits, it is probably the right one. As far as routing the wire, the wire runs down the left chrome fender molding, through the hole in the fender (near the fork and hidden by the molding) behind the fender mounting bracket (inside the fender) and back out the fender near the brake caliper. Each hole needs a rubber grommet to prevent wire chaffing. Hope this helps you
I don't know how the new harness comes but, if the connector is already installed you will have to remove the connector from the wires before routing the wires through the fender. There is no way to fit that connector through the tiny holes. There is a procedure for removing the wires from the connector and maybe someone else can help you if that is the case. If you haven't order everything yet, I would make sure to order the grommets, extra connectors, and mounting hardware. I have found that HD usually don't supply any mounting hardware. I would get the part in and have to wait 2 weeks for the hardware to come in.
Mark - thanks a lot. This is exactly the help I needed and I reeeeeally appreciate it. On my next day off work, I'll re-check the colour...it could well have been more orange than reddish because I was looking with a flashlight and it was dark. I feel a lot more confident thanks to your help. Best regards
Chris
