Default Which backrest?

I currently have a Harley backrest on my Ultra Classic. It's the one that adjusts with the set screw. I don't seem to be able to put it as far back as I would like.

Harley haks another one that is adjustable with a remote cable and lever. Does it go back any further than the one I have?

Thanls for any comments.

Have you check the mount under the seat? There are normally 4 positions in which you can bolt the backrest mount. It is very easy to change.... just three bolts. If you don't get enough adjustment from the screw, move it one hole.

I have the same backrest , I removed the screw and it wasn't enough.
Try that first and try moving it forward and back like the second post.
I still wasn't happy , so I carefully put mine in a 20 ton press and bent the seat back , back a few degrees , take care not to bend the legs where they slide into the base mount.
This was better , so I moved it forward 1 set of base mount holes.
It was still too vertical , so I bent it a bit more.
Then I went a bit too far and was able to put the screw back in for a slight adjustment.
Took me about 3 tries , and I got it where I like it.
If I was to buy from scratch , I'd have gone with the Mustang rest , but the Harley works really well now and I find that I don't need to adjust "on the fly" like some feel the need to.
I had done this when the rest was on my 06 EG Standard , and it worked well when I moved it to my current bike also.

I did have it on the first hole and did what you guys said. I moved it back to the second hole and that help some. It's now far enough back but still too much upright. It hits my back at the top of the backrest instead of the whole backrest resting on my back.

It looks like the other one would go mode at and angle.

Where would I find someone with a press like you used? What kind of business?

I bought the adjustable. I don't think it will go any farther back as I have the same problem you have. Find a machine shop. They usually have presses. Better yet, find a machine shop with a fully customized HD parked out front. Most machinist make mods to bikes we mere mortals can only dream about. Good luck.

I've got the adjustable one and it was a bit too straight-up, even all the way back. I just put a couple of washers under the front mounting bolts and bracket and all is good now, that was about 40,000 miles ago.

I had the adjustable and it was ok. I had it with a sundowner and it pushed me too far forward. Now I have a mustang solo and backrest with a thumb screw. Going from the adjustable to the thumb screw I havn't noticed a lot more in terms of concenience. The pulling of the handle to adjust and reaching back to adjust the screw are not a big deal either way.

Take the one you have off the bike put it in a vise and bend it - just a little & try it - if that's not enough do it again until you grt it where you like

Ridiculous. Get a Mustang and be done with it. It fits, is adjustable while riding, no hammers necessary.

Bent mine back a bit in a vise also. It worked great.
