My brother went down a couple of weeks ago on a local So Cal freeway when a car slid into the space between him and the car in front. Read the story here, and then tell me again why ABS is no good.

If ABS, or a TCB Braking System can stop even one incident like the one that happened to my brother, then they are worth their weight in gold!

Interesting...

ABS doesn't stop freak accidents from happening. And it's not that ABS isn't effective, because it is. It's just that I'm not going to cry myself to sleep worrying about what's going to happen tomorrow 'cause I don't have ABS on my bike.

I have ABS on the BMW and would add it to the Custom Bagger tomorrow if a kit was available. The brakes on the Beemer have saved my butt many times when I had to stop now! I commute into DC (105 miles roundtrip year round). It's amazing those that say it is junk. It has been proven that an expert rider under controlled conditions can out brake ABS. Unfortunately for all the experts here you can't count on the controlled conditions.

You need to ride an 09 with abs.

You will unplug it.

BMW ABS is stunningly good. Nothing like Harley ABS at all.

King, I talked with a local PD motorcycle cop the other day and he reinforces your opinion of ABS. He told me they are having a lot of issues with the ABS not working correctly at low speeds. HD has come out with a "patch" that made the matter worse. Maybe Harley should partner with BMW. I have no complaints with the Beemer brakes.

I just had my ABS flashed with the upgrade and it makes a significant difference IMO.

Now it's much closer to the system I expected when I bought the bike. Much less likely to kick in just going over uneven pavement. IMO, it's still the best option for the vast majority of riders.

I'm sure all the expert riders can out brake me, but I still like the idea that I don't have to think about proper braking technique in a panic inducing situation, just nail them (always intending to use proper braking technique) and concentrate on using evasive techniques to steer clear of the risk.

It's served me well for the last ~11k miles (since March 2009).

I do still ride the Fat Bob on a regular basis and while I will admit that I can stop slightly faster in ideal conditions on the BOB, I much prefer the ABS backing me up, just in case.
