Considering an early 09 RK at dealership. Bike has ABS. any reason for concern?
Have owned BMW's with ABS with no issues other than a PITA to flush brake fluid. But they've had ABS on bikes for decades. HD not so much. Appreciate thoughts, especially since bike is off warranty.
I don't see any real downside to the ABS. It is a potential for trouble down the road, but I wouldn't worry about that.
They could save your butt in some conditions. I didn't care too much one way or the other about them, but the Limited came with them.
There was one time when I just about had to lay a bike down as the "best" option in a situation. That option would be taken away from you with ABS, but in 40 years of riding, coming close to having to lay it down doesn't seem to be enough of a reason to avoid them.
A positive vote for ABS. I traded in my 08 Ultra and got a 2011 Ultra Limited just for the ABS. Already has saved my butt...Kicks in sometimes uunexpectedly, but once you get the feel of it, you will be happy you have it.
Highly recommended increases value of bike too. Ask dealer if Service Bulletin M-1251 was performed. It was a free calibration upgrade download for '09's.
