This is a very timely post since I'm considering the same two bikes with addition of the RK. My thoughts are the RK is great but I can't get the pullback I want with even the Heritage Style bars. The SG fits me really well with the HD higher touring bars but with those added it covers the mirrors. Supposedly HD has Fairing Plugs part #735 to cover the holes left after removing the mirrors but I can't find a picture or price on their website. I like the idea of the EG with the detachable trunk, but I would have to add SG back shocks and it doesn't have the clean appearance of the SG. Obviously all my post does is let you know you're not alone in your confusion! I hope you let us know what your choice is.
All the input I have read here is exactly why I read everyday. I do want the cool look of the SG but I want the travel ability of theEGC. I ride two up on trips and two up about half the time for day trips. What I should do is win the lotto and keep the Heritage for day trips and buy the EGC for trips.....best of both worlds......Thanks for the opinions and details of teh differences.
Or maybe just get the OL her own scoot and get the SG.....damn these hard decisions!!!!!

So put a trunk and a better seat on the Street Glide and have what you WANT, and what you will most likely be making payments on for a LONG time...remember that having what you really WANT is probably worth spending a bit more money.
Pick up a set of 13" shocks on Ebay for $100 if your concerned about the ride quality (thats the ONLY difference other than the seat...you could probably pick up a Classic seat on ebay for $150 as well) Put the trunk on using a quick detach kit, and you have the option to run without it as well.
And no, a stripped Classic does NOT look "just like a Street Glide":

I loved the look of the SG when they came out. I had two harleys already and new my wife would not go for a third. I am a pack rat. I came across a wrecked 100th EGC that I just could not pass up. I fixed it and made it look the way I wanted. I like the extra chrome and it is inexpensive to get detach stuff off ebay. Now I have the look I want for me and get to enjoy riding with my wife or daughter. I have a couple of bar hoppers when I want to have fun around town.
I went with a '10 SG because I got a killer price from my dealer.
If I had to do it over again and I could of got the EGC for the same price...I would of bought the EGC.
I would of (and have) added to the SG and the EGC I would of taked stuff off.
In the end....Bike against Bike....Dollar for Dollar, with the EGC I would have a Tourpak
I was all set to get the SG when the sales guy, who I know really well, told me I should look at the EG for the same money. Both bikes were side by side. When I looked at all of the trim that I would have to remove and it still would not have the clean look of the SG the choice was easy. Everybody has their own taste but the SG is the best looking bagger you can buy. I love the ride and have never regretted the choice.
Granted, I am biased, but I would go for the EGC. I like some of the SG looks, but there are things that I dont care for like the lack of the spot lights up front, lighted front fender, and larger rear lighting all classic (pardon the pun) looks that I love that also have an added safety feature visibility.
I bought my EGC thinking I would remove the tourpack and pick up a SG seat on the cheap (best of both worlds for me). Well, I found a SG seat for WAY cheap, but passed on it because I love the comfort of the stock seat (how often do you hear that about a stock HD seat?). I have also yet to take the tourpack off. Do I think its the best looking thing in the world nah, but Ill tell you what, after a week with it, I cant imagine not having it. I use the bike for EVERYTHING, its just great... long trip, short trip, running down the street to pick up a loaf of bread... it does it all and puts a smile on my face every time.
