damm it's too bad Dr. Phil isn't a harley rider, he'd have all the answers. it's your family man, if you can build the family then you should be capable of making decisions like this with your wife, without advice from within the motorcycle forum wouldn't you think? not trying to be a smart aleck, but that would, after all be a family decision you and your wife have to make.
Well the kiddo got up this morning with a bad sore throat and that seems to be about it so as for now the trip is a go for both my wife and I. I've been off all week on vac. and just about got the honey-do list knocked out. I had already made up my mind to pay for the room just to keep my friends (co-workers) happy. Thanks for the replies, you guys are great.
We always have a rule on whats acceptable to back out of a trip with no financial repercussions expected. Family is always first. Your really good friends would expect no less. We had a trip planned to Maggie Valley for the CHDDA rally on Sep 18-19 and I dropped my bike this past weekend while in a campground. Bike's ok but my right leg is broken in 3 places. I'm not going to be able to ride for the rest of the year and my group is fine with that.(huh? maybe they didn't want me to go afterall.) Groups that are laying out money should always have the what ifs covered. Just my thoughts.
Ride safe.
The fact that you wrote this thread says to me that your heart thinks you should stay home with the family. I'd tend to agree. Personally, I'd go ahead and pay for your room though so your friends don't lose out. It sucks to miss your trip but family comes first!
+1 Exactly what I was thinking!! You already know what you should do.
So you think you should go just because of the "group rate"?
I would think that freinds would unterstand and not expect you to have to pay just for the group rate.It not like your just flaking out.
While I do agree that they shouldn't "expect" you to go ahead and pay, I also think that you shouldn't expect them to pay more because your kid got sick. Just sayin, I would go ahead and pay for my room so that my friends were not put out because my kid got sick. Whether or not they would "expect" me to do it would be beside the point because I would do it without asking them.
Well kiddo is just fine, motorcycle was packed, all was ready to go and then we watched the weather. The entire route was to be soaked by heavy thunderstorms for the duration of the trip so we opted out, so did everyone else. The rest of the group is going to ride to Arkansas instead of San Antonio but it's supposed to rain there too, so wife and I are going to drive to OKC, have a few drinks, and gamble at one of the big indian casinos. Guaranteed I'll get lucky, hope my luck includes the slots too. Thanks for all the replies
