Default Is it normal (moisture in gauge)

Hey folks,

I have an 05 Ultra, every now and again I notice a bit of moisture in the fuel gauge. It eventually dries out and it's working just fine.

Is this normal?

BTW, yes I do wash it relatively often, like once a week. No I don't flood the gauges head on with water, but I do "gently" spray them lightly from the top as if rain was falling, wipe them down and rinse the same way.

I have a O6 RKC and it always seems to get moisture in the gas gauge after I wash it. It's always worked so I think it's ok. I am thinking of changing to the flush mount Kuryakyn LED gas/voltage cap. Looks real nice.

I get the same thing...& I don't wash my bike alot. I believe it has to do with the change in temperature & condensation building up when taking it out of the garage.

Well come to the world of FLHTC. Only remedy is small hole drilled in bottom of gauge housing. it will still fog, but you have a vent so the heat from the light will vaporize the moisture quicker.

Thats pretty standard for HD gauges, even my 1999 RK would moisure up on wet days or after cold doys. Keep in mind that HD does not make and assemble their own gauges so who knows where and how moist the assembly line is where and from whom they assemble them or how sealed.

My 05 Ultra has the same problem, and I have never washed my bike or rode in the rain.

I quizzed a factory rep about the gauge problem. He said that they are aware of the condensation and the only true fix is to install liquid-filled gauges, but them being so small in diameter makes them cost prohibitive for a production basis. Seems we'll be living with this issue for quite some time to come.

Joe
Unfortunately, yes it is. [:@]

This is a very common problem and has been discussed here many times. A search of the site may find you more information on it.
