Has anyone attempted to put a 09 swing arm on an older touring bike (o4 - RG) I can get one cheap and was wondering about the modifications i would have to do if any

09 models have an entirely new frame compared with earlier models. I haven't heard of anyone retro fitting one to an earlier bike. The swingarm you have on your bike can be retrofitted to even earlier bikes for an upgrade, but you have the best there is! I have just bought one on Ebay for my 1990 FLHS and am waiting for it to be delivered as I write!

Getting something cheap is not always a good thing! What made you think of this and what would you like to achieve?

No way, totally different frame. Just buy the whole bike that comes with a new swingarm.

Interesting question.
It might just be a matter of fabbing swingarm pivot spacers, or cutting it down. Would definitely require a narrower belt, pulley, and proper spacing.
I seriously doubt it'll be an easy swap. Might be better off buying an aftermarket kit?
I'd still like to hear if it's possible though.

The 09 rear wheel is much wider than previous dressers and the tyre wider still, so I suspect Harley have changed belt alignment in some way to get them in. So to fit an 09 wheel, assuming it can be done, may need a new gearbox pulley, to change the belt line.
