I need some advice here fellow touring members. Just last week as part of my new '09 street glide purchase had a V&H 2 into 1 pro high output pipe installed by my dealer. Really like the pipe except for 1 reason. The heat coming off this thing is to the point of being unbearable.
It doesn't have any sort of heat shield on it and looks like it doesn't come with one. Should I call dealer and bitch or V&H? I thought about heat wrap but I feel I shouldn't be the one to do that. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me being a wuss? Appreciate some solid advice.
sounds like you need to richen up the a/f ratio ..... those new bikes are set very lean on the mixture.... dont do the heat rap... you just need a new a/f map
thanks for the advice. I had the stealer put new fuel pak and S/E heavy breather on it at the same time. They dynoed which gave 9 more h.p. and 20 ft lbs more torque. May just give them a call. Thanks again.
My '09 Glide was so hot when I first got it that I was worried that the bike was 'too hot to ride!' I was trying to get 1,000 miles and the first service on her before I changed the pipes, intake and fuel management system. Before the swap I couldn't ride my new sled for 30 minutes without the rear cylinder cutting out every time I stopped! At 75mph the heat was almost unbearable!
Anyway...at 600 miles I said '**** on it' and yanked all the OEM crap off and installed V&H Dresser Duals and Monster Ovals, SE Heavy Breather and a PCV and Auto Tune (programmed by Jamie and his crew).
I'll take a breath now...and tell you that this is a totally different motorcycle! I am that excited about the change! It runs like a 'scalded dog' and my heat management has not kicked in once since my swap!
Be patient...you can get it all under control!
Ride safe...
Steve

Reason: Forgot a word...
First, Give the bike 1000 miles to break in and loosen up. They all run hotter at first. Then get it retuned to richen it up. Also, run synthetic oil, It really does help them run cooler.
I have the same pipe, it is hot, but definitely not too hot too ride. I only got the pipe because I'm doing a big build on this motor soon, as the pipe is not designed for a stock motor. as for heat shields I know some places will custom make them, but V&H does not offer them. If you had a PC-V i have some good maps for this pipe.
