ABS Failure!
Still no word today on the bike. Its been in the shop since last Monday. On a side note I got my survey today from HD as does everyone who buys a new bike. Filled it out online. Dont think they will like what they see when they read this one!
The brakes with abs also pulse when applied hard.
I bought a new '03 RK that was a total POS from the time I drove it off the lot. I caught the service manager lying to me about what they did to "fix" it - which was nothing, I diagnosed the problem and fixed it myself at my own expense - and made him admit it in the owner's office with the owner and his partner present. I reported all that on the survey. No response, nothing changed. No more new Harleys for me after that!
Good luck with your brake issues. You may not ever know what actually was wrong with it, only what the dealer tells you.
I doubt it is a failure of the normal braking sysstem, odds are HD engineers screwed the design up and your the unlucky guy who found it out. Glad you managed to get her stopped before you hit anything. I have made several complaint to the local dealer here in Korea, with very little luck. The comments earlier about downshifting and braking will cause an abs problem are just a bunch of bunk. I do this all the time, you will get a little abs activation when the ger change occurs due to whell speed vs actual speed, but thats about it.
Hope they figure this our before mine takes a dive. As I ride it to the limit, which by the way is only 115mph. My 95 Fatboy with a 125 TDC will stand the needle straight down, before my head shakes so much I can not see straight.

The ABS system is split into two seperate circuits, front and rear, within the unit. So there can be a failure on the rear that doesn't effect the front. If the master cylinder is not the problem, one issue could be the outlet valve on the rear circuit is stuck open or has contamination in it the doesn't allow it to fully close. That could allow fluid that is going to the rear wheel to be routed back up to the reservoir and the pedal to go to the floor.
Been looking at getting a new ride and I'm not sure about the ABS thing either,,, I guess I'll keep riding the Bear until the verdict is in. In theory, it should be a great asset, but after riding for 35 years without it, the new Ultra Classic I want may get ordered without it.

I talked with a guy last night that told me his front brake locked up on him just by tapping the brake. He said that he was going pretty fast, the end result was the front tire locked up back end came over the front and put him in the hospital for a few days. HD paid for the hospital the loan left on his bike and gave him a 105 Anniv. addition. Plus they took the bike........ So I don't know what to say about this braking system, I do know mine has worked well when needed so far.............
