Default '09 Ultra build feedback

Ladies/Gents,

Current set-up is: '09 Ultra w/ 103" motor, 255 cams, HD Heavy Breather, SuperTrapp true duals/SuperTrapp slip-ons & HD stage II download. This week I'm ordering a PC V w/ autotune. This winter I plan on purchasing Cyclerama's "Perfect Street" package which includes porting/valves/springs/CR575 cams/pushrods....the whole deal. Done lots of homework and have found that Cyclerama heads consistently produce more HP/TQ than other builds. They guarantee 100/100 minimum for this build.

My concern this, I ride every day (2 up every weekend) and dependablity is of UTMOST concern.

I'm the kind of guy that will always look for more power so I'm going to do something to the motor.

Need some feedback because I know that matching the right parts is very important.

So, let me have it.....all feedback is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Whats your budget?? How much power do you really want/need?? Do you want to do it once and do it right or is there another build after this one??

In my opinion the least reliable things in the 09 motor are the crank & rods, the bottom end bearings and the cam drives. Budget permitting I would be going gear drive for the cams, and I would be getting a decent crank without tapered con rods and going timken for the bottom end bearings.

If you are gonna change the crank you might as well go longer stroke and more capacity. I would be looking 120 inches plus, gear drive cams, forged roller rockers and supports etc etc.

I am obviously a fan of S&S's 124 kit because I bought one, but there are a few well matched stroker kits out there that replace virtually everything with high end components. If you can afford it then go for it, get in the 130s!!!

Oh, my 124 is my daily ride and I have put 7800km on her in the 5 months i have had her and she just gets stronger and stronger.

Make sure whoever is doing your build gives you a decent warranty. My motor came with 12 months ulimited ks.

I left out a few details:

1: I plan on riding this bike until there is nothing left of it and then I will rebuild it and ride it some more.

2: I am not willing to change motors, want to stick w/ my 103.

3: My budget is $2000 +/- a little and I want 100/100 (minimum)

4: I'm looking for stump pulling torque and normally ride between 2 & 4 K rpms. 2 up every weekend in the Black Hills of SD.

Didn't get much feedback on the Cyclerama heads/cam choice.....that doesn't seem to be the norm around here. Is their "perfect street" package a poor choice? Go with screamin' eagle instead? Let me have it, please give me some feedback as I know some/most of you probably have more experience than I do.

Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of very happy Head-Quarters 103"/107" bagger builds on HDF. Contact PhilM, lkro, masterblaster (within the past 10 days), and others. The provide roughly 110/120 hp/tq and 40+mpg.

Frankly, peak dyno numbers are nearly irrelevant since they do not necessarily reflect the reliability or rideability of a build.

Good luck with your project.

I just put 2,300 in my 88 to 95 with Cycle Rama's 575 cams. Currently doing the break in and doing the dyno next monday. I had a stage 1 on my flhx with a SE Race tuner and I am not expecting 100/100. Maybe 85-90 HP and 94 to 99 trq. I did everything but the heads.

excuse me for my ignorance, but what is a stage II download? wHAT IS A pc v auto tune. It was my assumption that I bought a SE Race tunner to tune the bike via the Dyna jet. Is the stage II download the map for the tune?
