HELP Primary oil level

Question HELP Primary oil level

Changed my own oil last night heres the question. Drained the primary and got about 40 oz of oil out. Book calls for only 32oz? I refilled with 32oz. I also tryed to remove the derby cover but the screws were very tight i was afraid the screws would break off. So the second problem is i can't see how high the oil level is on the clutch? Any ideas out there ?

I don't know about the 2000 model, but my '08 calls for 38 oz. in the primary.

My Sportster took 32oz, I just poured it in the small inspection cover and called it good. Never went into the derby unless to adjust the clutch. You will have to deal with the tight screws sometime though.

To get the level to the bottom of the clutch spring,this will take about 36 oz.Or you can go with 32oz. min.
I run 36oz. in mine.

Factory manual for the 2002 Touring Bikes calls for 32oz. The components do not need to be submerged in oil. The system uses the chain to carry oil to all the components.

You are correct,however more can be added safely to the bottom of the diaphram spring at least on the '99-'06 TC's.

There are a ton of other posts regarding the oil level if the search is used.

If you put too much in the primary it can affect your clutch engagement. Just a thought. I put what the manula calls for and call it a day. Never had a problem this way.

1. Drain and refill with what your manual says.
2. Put a torx socket on the screw and give it a couple of cracks with a hammer, if you suspect lock tite on the screw warm it with a soldering gun.

Not to be a smart azz but why would anyone put more or less oil than the manual calls for?

The '06 owners manual states 32oz. or to the bottom of the spring.
