Default another windshield cutting question

I only need about an inch taken off my windshield. Couldn't I take it out of the fairing and cut that off the bottom straight across and just redrill the 3 holes to hold it back on? It would save alot of hassle of making the arc and sanding, and it doesn't look like an inch off the bottom would affect the curve on the sides and top, or am I missing something?

that's a common way to do it. use lots of making tape several strips wide when drilling the new holes.

You might be able to, but I'd do alot of measuring first. I just cut down an 1 1/2" on my Road King Windshield a few weeks ago and it was a piece of cake.

Why not save yourself the hassle, new shields are only about $25 at www.fastaire.com

If you cut and shape the stock Harley shields, I'd bet a dollar to a donut that the coating starts peeling. As cheap as they are from the aftermarket, I'd save my stocker.

THATS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT AS THE HOLES ARE A PART OF AN OPEN SLOT TO SERVE AS A LOCK FOR THE SHIELD. YOU GOTTA DO IT THE HARD WAY OR PART WITH 129 BUCKS. I REPLACE MINE ABOUT EVERY 2-3 YEARS AS IT IS BADLY SCRATCHED BY THAT TIME.

I have cut windshields on several bikes and have never had a coating peel. I cut the wife's '97 Lowrider shield and she rode it for 6 years and 47,000 miles. Never a problem. Her 2001 Heritage has had the shield cut twice, too high the first time, and there has been no problem.

I agree with Mac about cutting the bottom, it will be easier to cut the top than to try to get the bottom cut and the holes and slots right.
Regards,

Bill
