Good grief! I've been riding baggers since '95 and have never gotten less than 10,000 miles on a rear Dunlop. The newer compound is suppossed to give 30% more treadwear. I changed mine on my '04 FLTRI at just over 13,000 miles, and could have gone further. Most of my miles are solo touring miles and I religiously keep the pressure at 38 psi cold. Most of my buddies run with OEM Dunlops and get similar mileage........and we get way over 25K on the front tires.
Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse usually has the best prices on Dunlops that I have found. I bought my last one (rear) for 99 bucks delivered to my door....OEM Dunlop blackwall, and it is awaiting its turn. Good tire for a fair price.......
Not true in my case. I have an '05 RG, and replaced my rear tire at 13K. 8k to 10k is not normal. If you keep your air pressure at 40psi all the time, you should get at least 11 or 12k before having to replace it.

From everyone I have talked to 8000-10000 is the normal average life. You are right in there.
I STAY WITH THE DUNLOPS BECAUSE ALL DEALERS WILL HAVE DUNLOPS IN STOCK IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM ON THE ROAD. I BELIEVE METZLER IS A BETTER TIRE BUT THEY ARE NOT AS READILY AVAILABLE.
I just put a new rear on my EG Classic and it had 11,000+ miles on it. It was good for at least 1,000 more but with a long trip planned I went ahead and changed it. I went with a factory spec. Dunlop.
I get my tires from American Motorcycle Tire. Good price and good service. I then get them mounted and balanced at an indy for about 20.00 each off of the bike.
I just changed my first rear tire got 10,000 miles and it was completley used up. I dont ride hard but I ride lots of curvey roads here in the mountains. I replaced it with the Dunlop 404 and I dont see any difference (besides no Harley Davidson Logo) and its alot cheaper. Same ride and traction.
I guess you guys will be crying. I just changed my first rear tire at 17000+ miles.
I replaced it with the stock Dunlops as they certainly seem to be holding up well.

Hope that 404 works out for you. I put one on the wife's Heritage and it lasted 5,000 miles. They are made in Japan, and do not have the same rubber compounds that their American counterparts the 402's do. I know two or three people who have tried them, all with the same low millage results.
