I've seen split wheels with the HD stocker, also. It comes from rust inside. This is what my garage kept 2000's rear wheel looked like at about 6 years. I wonder how long it would have been until it split or the spoke nipples pulled thru...
Thank you all for the replies. It was my goal to hopefully save someone else by passing on my problem. I now think that those wheels are made in China so much for the name Mid Western.
All I can say is I am very lucky, and happy to know the good Lord was watching over me. Thank God the light changed red at the bottom of the hill, or I may have been going much faster.
I know this much, everytime I can I will be looking at my wheels much more than before.
