First thing I would suggest is to change where you're buying your gas. I have found that 'some' stations around Denver have really CRAPPY gas. Anytime I encounter a new one, I will run the tank almost empty then fill with Shell V-Power, which I have found to provide an immediate improvement (in addition to cleaning up the engine).
I had this happen fairly recently, where a station that 'had' been a place with good fuel got a bad delivery of fuel and I had to burn the junk fuel off then go to Shell and fill up.
The fuel mileage went from 39.32, to the following:
206 mi trip 46.30 m.p.g. (Shell V-Power fuel)
181 mi trip 45.74 m.p.g. (Shell V-Power fuel)
274 mi trip 49.73 m.p.g. (Shell V-Power fuel)
Also, I'd check your spark plugs to make sure your engine is not running too rich!
My overall average, since Mar 21, 2009 (16209 miles, 43.87 m.p.g) [yes, I'm overly **** and keep track of this on my iPhone using Road Trip Pro]
My 09 got in the high 30's until it had about 500 miles on it. Seemed like someone threw a switch and it suddenly started getting in the low 40's. Now with 2500 miles I'm getting 43-45 mpg and the bike is stock.
