I have the XM Commander. The sat radio is velcro'd on top of the factory radio, and the antenna sticks to the top of that. Has been there over a month now, I ride every day, and have never lost signal yet.
According to Mike at Biketronics .. the XM antenna is fine under the fairing mounted on top of the radio -- UNLESS you have metallic paint, then you may have a problem. I have Vivid Black on my RG and the reception is top notch from under the fairing.
I have my antenna under the fairing and have had no problem with reception unless I am in a big city with lots of tall buildings, or riding directly North in the mountains, but I lose signal in my pickup with the factory install under the same circumstances.
Some antennas have Velcro, 2 sided tapeor a magnet to hold them in place. My antennahas the magnet, can I use that under the fairing on top of the radio? I am not sure if the magnet would interfear with the bikes radio (2006 ultra)
