Default 12 volt outlet

Hey, I want to put a 12 V. outlet on my bike ('06 Road King) for the GPS. What did you do, run wires straight from battery with inline fuse link or is there a couple wire just hanging, just for this application, an where did you mount the outlet?

you can use the Techmount which has a ram ball mount as well as a 12V plug. As far as wires, you can run a line direct to the battery with an inline fuse, i'd also suggest a switch somewhere in there as well. Or you can pull power from inside the nacelle to an ignition switched power source so that its not hot all the time.

I mounted an outlet right in the Nacelle, I removed the unused rocker switch on my RK and put in a powerlet socket, http://www.powerletproducts.com/

I bought the HD power outlet 91843-97 which plugs in under the seat, then I extended the wires and the socket sits in my windscreen bag. It is switched by the LH switch on the back of the nacelle and I can run phones, GPS etc off it.

I put an in line connector in the nacelle so I can get rid of it when I ride without the windscreen (which is very rare indeed).

+1 for Powerlet. I'm working with them right now to make a powerbar for the new Road Tech 660. They are easy to deal with and speak American.

I have a set of Chubby Apes on my Road King so I needed to make sure the bracket I chose would work for my bars.

I started with a Kuryakyn power outlet and bar clamp...

I did not want a separate clamp for the RAM ball, so I made a quick bracket out of aluminum to attach the ball to. All-in-all it worked out great and looks pretty good.

I do like the Powerlet and it would have been a clean solution as well. They just seemed a little expensive for what you got, so I decided to see what I could do on my own. In the end, this was done for about half the price of a comparable powerlet, so I am pretty happy.

To wire, I ran from the power outlet into the nacelle and followed the main wiring harness to the battery. The Power Outlet comes with an in-line fuse and just wires to a constant power and a ground.

By mounting it in this location the wiring is completely hidden and very clean

I got this same outlet, but I just ran it to the side of my seat so I could plug into it when I needed it and when I wasnt using it you could not realy tell it was there, I put black tape on it to protect the tank, then I just kind of nesseld it between the front side of the seat and just behind the tank.

I have a chrome one from kuryakyn and love it. If I want to use it as a power supply(which I haven't yet) I can put the lighter in my windshield bag.
