How could you tell if the ride degraded with garbage shocks. This isn't a personal attack on you or your bike. I'm saying stock shocks are garbage from the factory.

All I was saying, is that I disagree with this statement......
"...............................with the shorter Harley shocks get ready for one very rough ride.
Steve"
The poster refers to Harley shocks. I replaced mine with HD SG shocks, and the ride did not suffer a bit. Not saying there's not better shocks to be had.
And I think I'd be able to tell if the ride degraded....
Hello, I'm a newbie. I went in and introduced myself. I have a 09 EGC, has anybody here messed with the stock HD shocks...like changing the oil to heavier oil? The reason I'm asking, I read on a thread somewhere a guy did that. I can't find it now, but I remember him saying the stock oil is 5wt. He supposedly changed it to 10wt or something. I contacted several Dealers and I can't find anybody that knows even how much oil they have in stock shocks. I think all the dealer knows is try to sell you a new pair. Ron

Guy over at VTF has a post outlining how he changed his in the touring section there. Put in "shocks" in the search engine and look for a thread by member "cts1950".

Thanks for the help GUY, I'm a newbie to this forum and not as forum smart as you are. I've already taken care of the shocks on my bike.
The comment you made about Harley stock shocks being garbage is not actually true. Harley doesn't make shocks. They have their shocks made by a well known shock manufacturer. I'm not sure if they still do,but a man that's been with Harley about thirty years now told me they were at one time made by Showa.
