freeway vs. back roads
i come from a family of old HD riders. none of them will take their scooters (old or new) on the highway. Alot of the guys i ride with do not have the patience to take the back roads and deal with traffic/traffic signals. I ride almost everyday and refuse to take the highway unless i have no choice. this is the opinion i'm asking for. The old flat/knuckle/pans do not take higher RPMs well. I would like to always cruise at around 1500 on my 05 FLHR, however does this group find any harm (the mechanical type) with running at 3000 rpm along the highway for any legnth of time. these are new times and new designs. I dont want to have to hate thinking of the wear and tear on my bike during the highway miles.
First I have to agree with above. I don't like to cruise any lower than 2500 RPMs, I shift around 3000 RPMs. I run on the highways all the time around 3200 RPMs at 75 or so.
I'd be comletely afraid of becoming a splat on someone's windshield at those RPM's. Gotta move with the flow of traffic or get the heck of the road.
Not safe to putt around that slowly.

You bought that bike for a reason,,, just ride it man. If you want to cruise at 1500, buy a trailer and attach it to your truck. You can do 1500 all day long with no damage!
Ride it until the wheels fall off! Enjoy

Sometimes the freeway is safer than back roads. On the freeway I get to the far left and only have to watch 1 lane. On back roads you have to watch the red light/stop light runners and the pull out in front of you people.[

Manish, Thats how I look at it.....
If I have a long way to go and short time... Highway...... Left lane only have to watch one lane.....
Back roads you always have cages pulling out and running stop signs and lights....
