2003 electra glide (carb) throwing code PPU then 82883 anyone know what this means. There is about 30 people asking the same question but can never find the answer.
There is a difference between stock EFI calibrations that may be causing some of the speed
signal related issues you encounter. The stock calibrations for 2004 & later model years will
write a PPU Value to the ECM. The current stock calibrations for 2003 & earlier models do
not. The PPU Value is what controls the speed displayed on the speedometer, which in turn
controls the turn signal cancellation.
If you have downloaded a 2004 & later stock calibration into an ECM it should not be used on a 2003 or earlier motorcycle; the speedometer and turn signals will not function correctly
even after updating the VIN and calibration to match the vehicle.
After all the diagnostic codes are displayed, the speedometer's pulses per unit (PPU) setting is displayed. This number will vary depending on speedometer part number.

So if you display all the speedomometer codes, how do you know if/what something is wrong. I page thru d01 thru d10 and then PPU then 82883, is anything wrong? I am getting backfiring thru the exhaust(engine does not start), also having trouble gettin the right spark plug and gap, used autolite 4614, 4613 and the Bosch equivalent, the Bosch is giving the backfiring with .040 gap....engine upgraded to 95 cubes with Screamin' Eagle 257 cam.
