Default another cam comparison

im looking at putting a 103 in my 09 ecltra glide im interested in the diffenece between the andrews 54h cam to the hq575 cam and if i can get away with 10.5 to 1 pistons i think the cold cranking compression will be over 200 which tells me no. one other thing can i get away with doing nothing to my stock heads for now to save a few bucks

You'd be better off with HQ525's and flat-top 3.875" pistons (much less $$ than the forged 10.5:1's) and bore your jugs to match the new slugs and have yourself a nice 103.

Both the 54 & 575 really need headwork to perform optimally. The 54 likes about 10:1 & the 575 up to 10.5:1.

As is true with all the above, the tune will make or break the build.

If you don't want to do the heads then just pop a HQ500 cam in your 96" and it will work great until you want to do the 103 upgrade with heads and the cam will still work.

I noticed you signed your post as "Depressed bagger owner"
That is what you will be if you go through your motor without some head-work. Both the cams you listed really need to have some flow.

the other question is if i go with the hq575 they say you can run 10.5 to 1 pistons... i went to big boyz head porting Twin-Cam Compression and Engine Displacement Calculator and put in my build and the cold compression pressures were 230.9. i was told anything over 200 is bad.. and will require race fuel in warm days. also anything over 200 needs the knock sensor turned off. if i use just 10.1 to 1 it is perfect at 193.00 but will i lose too much torque at 2000-2500 with the low compression???? thanks
not sooo much depressed anymore bagger owner

Mrdakota, I can attest to what Jag1886 says about the HQ 500 cams, I have them in my 08 Street Glide and let me tell you, they pull real nice. I was thinking of doing a 103 SE kit, but for what the dealer wants and what he wants to upgrade you to(SE heads, stage IV, this and that) and next thing you know you just spent $5000 grand. If I was you, just go with the cams to start with, and then if you feel the urge for a big bore, by all means go for it. Good luck...

If you do some Head-work, put some Andrews 54's in. Huge TQ from 2K all the way up.

ive decided to go with the hq575 cams, with some porting my builder says i should do the 1.86 intake valve but leave the stock exhaust.. ive talked to alot of people some say just port some say 1.9 and 1.62. are there any dyno numbers to prove more head work pays off. or just a good flowing stock setup is sufficent.
