Default Touring luggage recommendations

Hi,

I know this general topic has been covered in other message threads, and I've read through a lot of them, but I still can't find the few remaining answers I am still looking for.

I am deciding between TBag or Kuryakin luggage for my Road King standard and am steering toward a rigid, expandable bag (nylon, not leather). Anyone have experience or comments about the following...

1) Attachment material strength - velcro vs. slipover pocket vs. straps? Kuryakyn uses velcro belt and straps, TBag uses zippered slipover and straps.

2) How about the passenger's comfort on the backrest - do your passengers notice straps more than a slipover pocket or is it not noticeable? The Road King has a slightly curved 13.75" backrest pad.

3) Your thoughts about rigid vs. soft bags and if one or the other experiences more wind drag or noise, or more problems shifting around while in place?

4) Also looking toward a bag with dimensions that distribute the weight wider rather than taller if possible without the sides sagging.

I am considering the Kuryakyn Ultra Tour Bag and Classic Tour (roll) Bag, the Kuryakyn Grantour, The TBag Tahoe or the TBag Super T. I have ruled out SAC as their nylon is only 600 denier, while TBag and Kuryakyn are thicker weaves.

Thanks.

I really like the Kuryakyn Grantour bag, stylish with great function/features.

We use the Kuryakyn Full Dresser on our Road King Classic.

I was concerned about the velcro and wrapping it around the passenger backrest, but my wife doesn't notice that it is even there. My wife likes it when the bag is fully packed because she can use it as a head rest (?) ... The bottom 2/3 of the bag contain a plastic container with two compartments. The top 1/3 can be used when needed, otherwise it is compressed using the straps. It also has a couple of side pockets on either side of the bag along with a rain cover.

Have you ever noticed the velcro becoming unsecured after a long, fast and/or twisty ride? Or the bag feeling a little sloppy during the ride?

The velcro is real secure and combined with the straps, it's a real solid set-up!

Got 2 Kuryakyn full dressers for the two bikes. very happy with them. If you look at the specs you will find the full dresser has the same volume as the largest of the T Bag with the roll on top. More room the better.

I would get the rigid side bag if I were to do it again. I've got the T-bag universal and really like it. You can get a lot of stuff in it. However, if you don't really fill it up, it starts to sag a bit. The rigid side unit shouldn't do that. Or, you can do like I did, get the tour pack.

Ditto! I always loved the classic white, and the contrast between white, black leather and chrome.

Thank you so far, everyone, for your input.

I bought a Kuryakyn Full Dresser about a month ago. So far, so good. Wife has no problem with the velcro strap around the backrest. Quality of the bag seems very good, plenty of zippered pockets. Easy access into the bag without having to unstrap it from the bike.

Purchased from Eastern Cycle, $154.00 shipped. Best price I found, quick service.
