Default Oil change - engine/trans/primary

It's a 94 Road King and I'm trying to find all the right directions pertaining to my bike.

Is the oil change (engine/trans/primary) different on my 94 than it is on the newer Road King's? I found the directions on the site in the DIY section that list the 99 and newer or twin cam......but what about my old 94?

Plus, I can't seem to find anything on the primary oil change??

What about oil amounts for each (engine/trans/primary)?

I know all of this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it ([sm=bangbang.gif])

Thanks in advance.

Default RE: Oil change - engine/trans/primary

All of this should be in your owner's manual. Also, if you're going to DIY, it would be prudent to buy a service manual from HD. It gives info on torque values you should know before removing and replacing covers, bolts, etc.

Quantities:

Engine: 4 qts. with filter change

Tranny: 22 oz. of gear oil (manual says 20-24 oz.) More than 22 oz. may cause some fluid to puke out of the breather hose in hot weather.

Primary: With derby cover off and bike upright and level, fill to the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring. This will be 38-44 oz., although I never measured it. I use the sight method.

Location, drain plugs:

Engine: Bottom of bike under tranny, towards center of oil pan.

Tranny: Bottom of bike to the right of the engine oil plug.

Primary: Torx screw directly below derby cover at bottom of outer primary cover. Be careful not to unscrew any outer primary bolts (Allen).

Location, fill:

Engine: Below seat on right rear of engine.
Tranny: Large Allen screw just forward of engine fill point on chrome tranny cover.
Primary: Pour in at derby cover or primary chain inspection cover. Torque derby cover bolts to 70 in. lbs.
