does anybody know what is the difference on the h-d locks for the saddle bags on the road king classic and the road king custom? the dealer could not explain and for sure they couldn't explain the $ 130.00 diference.
thanks
The only lock kits for the RKC that HD has is the ones to lock the bags to the bike. There is a third party outfit that I found the makes a lock kit for the RKC and it is Lock your leathers. I think they just resell someone elses lock kit because I have found the same thing elsewhere on the web.
Classic locks are on the side above the buckle and on the custom they are mounted to the rear of the bag. Two different kinds of bags , two different kinds of locks.
thanks for the reply but i was talking about the locks that lock the bags to the bike. i was at the dealer and they had the classic and custom bikes side by side.i checked the bags and they were identical. i dont know why they sell 2 different kind of locks.
Sounds like he was pricing the bag lid locks, not the locks for bag to bike. The price difference for the bag lock is because the bags are considerably different. Custom bags have a cable latch stock and RKC bags have straps. The price difference for those locks is because you need the cable and latch mechanism for the RKC as well as the lock itself.
If you ever consider bag locks, don't buy off the shelf. If you order them you can get them keyed to match your ignition and steering locks, eliminating the need for another different key to carry and lose.
I have a rk custom, and put the lid lock on it. It disables the button release, and the lock is mounted on the rear of the bag, on the inside. Mine were not expensive, and very easy to do. Well worth the money, IMO.
