The '98s had the same issue/recall.

Got my notice last week. Moco clearly implies potential failure could be caused by operater misuse rather than mechanical issues. I wonder how valid that is, or are they ducking the fact they stuck a bad part in there?

A buddy of mine has a 2000 Roadking with the built-in fork lock (separate from ignition). 2 years ago we were on a ride, stopped at a restaurant. He locked the bike and when we returned the forks would not unlock. The bike had to be towed to an out of city HD dealer. It took a week to get it back and my friend was told they had to disassemble the front end to get at it and repair. He won't use the fork lock to this day.

It's a hassle, but I guess it's not worth taking a chance leaving the stock ignition lock in.

I don't ever use the fork lock. IMO it is pointless. I have the security system that disables the ignition and if anyone really wants the bike they WILL get it regardless of a locked fork or not. If they cannot start the bike (because of the security system) they can either pick it up and or roll it away. If someone wants to roll the bike away, have fun. If they want to pick it up with a few guys they can do that if the fork is locked or unlocked.

got the recall notice on my 06 eg last week. Called the dealer, Hacienda Harley, in Scottsdale AZ the sme day and asked when I could bring it in. He said how about "now". Drove it down and it did take just about an hour. it uses the same key, so no need to carry 2 different ones and it seems easier to turn.

Hmmmmmm. My RG born on date is just 8 days before the cut off date of the END USER Stupidity notice. Maybe I was to stupid to recognize the recall if it was mailed to me.

This was a big topic of discussion at the HOG meeting last night. The Tech. for the local shop didn't seem to think it was user stupidity. He said the locks were poorly designed.

Regards,

Bill

Taking my 06 CVO in this afternoon for the 1K service. I'll be asking about the lock and the 25 deg injectors. Mine was built in March 2006
ORIGINAL: bountyhunter

I've had mine replaced twice......so far. The fork lock is just a complete cheap quality total POS! Recall is for bikes built before FEB 15! Anybody have an issue on a bike built after the recall date?

If you have a March 06 bike you shouldnt have any issues. It should have the 25 degree injectors and the 2nd design ign. lock already.

My street glide was built in May and the fork lock hasn't worked from day 1.
