With the problems I have on my 06 FLTRI and and have seen with the rest of the 06 models, I'm not sure taking a "new" bike is even a safe bet. It would also depend on which 1550 kit they offered. I'd want the stage II and the killer deal better be better than $887, becasue thats the cost of the stage II kit through Zanotti. They are wanting mine back on Wednesday to determine if they need to tear apart the motor after the service manager calls corporate on Wednesday to verify some things.

Personally, I would take the new bike and run but that is me.

I gotta agree

copout221,

No all they had to do was pull the oil pump. I talked to the tech that did the repair and what he told me was that o-ring was cut at the factory during install. Seen 1 other than mine and on another 06. I had the Sert installed and they dynoed it first. Was only making 48 hp. He new something was up. Fixed under warranty of course.

After I got my new 06 Ultra, I noticed the oil pressure would drop almost to 0 when it was hot and at idle. Dealer I bought it from replaced the sensor and it was better but still low. Bike seemed not to have any power either. Took it to another dealer and they found a cut o-ring on the oil pump. It was causing the crankcase to fill with oil and not be returned. After the fix no more oil pressure probems and it runs like a raped ape.

I think this is exactly what occured. How detailed is the repair? Does it require tearing the engine apart? Thanks

Thanks Yoman. I am almost 100% sure that his bike has the same problem you experienced. If it does not require major downtime or engine breakdown he will most likely get the bike back tomorrow since the repair is not as involved as they (the dealer) thought it would be.

I'd go for the 1550 kit. Even if he gets it done for cost of materials only, I grab it and run. Either way the bike will be covered under warranty because a dealer did the upgrade. Sounds like a win/win to me.

Because the bike only has a few hundred miles on it and I know other dealers may have issues with the 1550 kit when it comes to warranty issues I think he would be better off with a repair to the bike or a new bike. The svc department is not impressing me and I would hate for additional problems to develop because of the kit. If the kit was not written into the original deal on the bike (sale) any other dealer can turn him away for warranty work if the problem can be attributed in any way to the kit being installed. Also, another guy I know had the kit put on his bike by this dealer and continues to have problems with backfiring and mapping and he regrets doing the kit in the first place.

"Sumping" is an OLD problem. I never dreamed a new bike would have it. It was a pretty common thing on the shovelheads and early evo's. Most of the older bikes had a crankcase breather. If the bike had a sumping problem, once you fired it up, oil would pour out of the breather tube, or the air cleaner. Quite messy. I guess gravity kicks in in this situation and doesn't allow the oil to come out of the air cleaner, thus binding up the crank and creating a huge power loss. That is a great thing about the forum though. Hard to tell how many "issues" have been made simpler because someone else already lived it and then shared it.
