Bought a Sporty in '02 and went to Laconia Bike Week the following week. Saw so many Touring bikes everywhere. Fell in love with the looks of Road King Classic, but I had payment book to stick with.

4 years later, Bought a '06 RKC and went to Sturgis Bike Week. Saw so many Touring bikes everywhere again and fell in love with Ultra. Until HD announced 450 new design parts on the Touring Model so I browsed it through American Iron Magazine comparing the White '03 and Flame Blue/Pewter '09. Fell in love with the color shown in the magazine and called up my dealer to see if they had one in stock. Nope, Will be coming in 3 weeks. Got an email from my dealer saying that my Ultra's in.

Whoa !!...I say to myself, "My Ultra ?" so I went down, introduced myself to my new baby in the off limit area and we hitched afterwards w/o question. Now, My lady loves it so much rather than my ol' RKC. Hey, I still miss my RKC as it's still sitting in the showroom floor.

Touring Bike rules,

Thorey

I see absolutely nothing wrong with owning two bikes. In fact, I do own 2. You pick the one that best meets whatever kind of riding you're planning to do that day. I've owned an '04 Goldwing since new, and wouldn't part with it except maybe for a new one, because it's the best traveling bike on the planet. But when I feel like there's a little of the "bad boy" coming out in me, I get on the Boss Hoss and let 445 horses pull my arms out of their sockets. Variety's the spice of life, and it helps keep you young.

If the Electra is more comfy for two, then its bound to be more comfy for me alone.
Yes. That's correct.

What are some your thoughts as to why YOU changed or did you start from the top first.
I definitely started at the bottom. I started in the '50s on a 3hp Cushman scooter and worked my way up through prolly 30 or so bikes to get here - been a fun and interesting journey.

I went from a Vulcan 2K to an Ultra Classic and the transition is much better than I imagined. Actually, the Ultra handles much better with slow tighter turns than the metric. Pleasantly surprised, and the comfort with all the niceties on the Ultra is a tremendous plus. Glad I did it!

I've had two Wide Glides (1986 and 2000), an 07 Heritage and now an 09 FLHX. I loved every one of these bikes, but the SG has been the most comfortable overall. Wait a minute, I've said that about every harley i've owned. Really though, you need to rent and ride and then make the decision. Best of luck to ya!!

If you can afford it go with two bikes. I have an Electra Glide right now as my only ride but am missing riding a bike without a windhield or fairing. I had a Road King before which worked well for an only bike.

I agree.... no single bike really does it all, but the Road King comes closest, I guess as stripped down boulevard cruiser or with windshield for touring. I've missed my LowRider since the day I sold it. There's something about no windshield, no fairing, no bags, just a hot slutty looking cruiser that is awesome for shorter rides. But for the all day rides, touring, or any two up riding, I'd take my Road Glide Custom over anything else. It would be a lot of fun to add a new Sporty to my garage for the short local rides, though.

Funny thing, though, during the years when I had two bikes (2004 Road King Custom and 2004 Low Rider) I overwhelmingly selected the Road King over the Low Rider... just more comfortable, and the storage is really nice to have. As a one-bike owner now, I wouldn't have anything but my 2010 FLTRX. This bike gobbles miles voraciously and with great ease and comfort. And somehow it still manages to look hot and slutty! I'm totally thrilled with it!

I would check out the Road King. Properly equipped you could have the best of both worlds. It is built on a the Touring platform.

Great to hear that wife enjoys the ride.
