After an 8 year hiatus from bikes, 2 months ago I purchased my first harley..a 2010 FXDWG Wide Glide. I thought I was getting this for me, but my wife is now enjoying it and its now, at least on the weekends, for we. She doesn't want to be the sole rider, she wants to ride with me. Now I don't have to give up my Wide Glide , she's has already kicked the idea around about a larger bike, maybe in the spring. I'm 48, she's 54; we're now younguns' anymore and a larger, more equipped bike would probably be better for the 2 of us in the long haul. We've ridden 2-160 miles weekend rides and we're both doing just fine in the ride quality catagory. But how about around town. Am I going to be happy with an electra glide as my sole harley? I really don't see getting 2 and then my heart would be torn between the 2. If the Electra is more comfy for two, then its bound to be more comfy for me alone.
What are some your thoughts as to why YOU changed or did you start from the top first. Thanks a bunch.
Once you get used to it, the EG is a dream to ride.. I keep forgetting its a "bagger" it handles so well. lol I ride mine around town 90% of the time..maybe more.. the extra carrying capacity doesn't hurt either.
The ride is cushier on a touring bike, you can adjust the rear suspension, the fairing is a protection help...I would say test ride the Road glide, electra glide and the road king and make a decision from that...
Am I going to be happy with an electra glide as my sole harley?
........ uhh...no, ....nothing wrong w/an EG, but...... the touring bike for a 'single Harley' family is a Road Glide.
...... looks like a rocket, handles like a dream, takes you & your loved one anywhere/everywhere in supreme comfort.
......Find one of the leftover '09's, they've got the cruise control built in.
Rent one for a couple days or weekend. In my opinion, they are great for traveling 2-up, and great for me to solo around town. I don't really like2-up riding in town, but wouldn't trade for any other bike. Rent one for a couple days and decide for yourself before taking the plunge.
