Went from a softtail to a SG and never looked back!
The ride of a touring class bike is just unbelievable compared to any other bikes harley produces.

If you are on the fence about a touring bike, give the Road King a serious look. When I got mine it was between the King and a few various softails. The fact that the Road King comes equipped for the long haul, but can easily be stripped down for a run around town

Another thought.

If you start to talk to a salesman, make sure you ask for a rental certificate or a comp if you buy.

Local dealer here will comp the rental fee if you buy a bike within so many days.

In addition, if you put your bike in for service they do 1/2 price rentals. Great way to ride a bunch of different bike.

And for the record, the touring class isn't "better" than a Wide Glide. Just different. Wide Glide is truly a classic ride.

I'm on my fourth Ultra. When I find something that works as good as they do, I stick with it............. If ya do get the Ultra, you will NOT be disapointed!

Similar experience as you, had a softail took time off , went to buy ,was on the fence between a Dyna and a Bagger ,demoed both, the Dyna is way sporty'er than a Bagger that was it for me I bought the Bagger! If I wanted something sporty I'd have gotten a Buell and gone really sporty.

A good compromise bike would be a Heritage, Road King being the next best. Comfort for a passenger is always a tricky thing you could try removable seats racks etc...

dude im 21 and have a SG, why? because its a dream to drive around town or the long haul, crusin thru town with the tunes on is great! and the bags is great...

plus you can add a tour pack detachable and have more comfort and convience when needed

go with a tourer and you wont regret it

Considering these 2 bikes are the same minus a few options they have the same ride for the both of you. I got a electra glide and added the lower fairings for a fraction of the cost. I also put a detach kit on the tour pak so I can remove when riding solo around town.
Either way you can't go wrong.
