Because the other models frames just didn't seem tall or long enough and HD does not make them any larger then this.

That's another good point.........

I am not trying to convince you to buy a Road King, but I LOVE mine. The money side is right on par. I was looking at two softails the Night Train and the CrossBones. If you look at the MSRP of those two bikes and add a windshield and good bags, you will potentially be spending more on the softail than you would on a touring bike. I really think its more bang for your buck. The FLHR has a MSRP of $16,999 in vivid black. The Night Train was $15,899 and one of the less costly Softails. Once you add a good set of bags and a detachable windshield, you would be over the MSRP of "the King" Just more food for thought. Bottom line rent a few, demo some, whatever, but find which one is "you"

Now I don't have to give up my Wide Glide , she's has already kicked the idea around about a larger bike, maybe in the spring. I'm 48, she's 54; we're now younguns' anymore and a larger, more equipped bike would probably be better for the 2 of us in the long haul. We've ridden 2-160 miles weekend rides and we're both doing just fine in the ride quality catagory. But how about around town. Am I going to be happy with an electra glide as my sole harley? I really don't see getting 2 and then my heart would be torn between the 2. If the Electra is more comfy for two, then its bound to be more comfy for me alone.

What are some your thoughts as to why YOU changed or did you start from the top first. Thanks a bunch.

Like others have told you before, rent an EG (preferably an Ultra Classic) for 1 day before you decide and go for a long ride with your SO behind you. I've owned many bikes in 35 years and the Ultra Classic is the best bike I've ever owned. It's comfy, smooth, classy, it handles great at all speeds in all terrains and has tons of amenities and storage for you and your passenger.

+1 on the classic, or ultra classic, definately more comfortable than a RG or SG for the passenger, and you can get the removable tourpack mount if you want to take it off and ride with out it.

I purchased my Street Glide cause I figured I wasn't getting any younger and wanted to enjoy riding comfortably. I have no problem riding it around town.

I went from this

To this

Couldn't be happier with my decision. I always said that I would make the switch "one day". After me and dad made the 1,100 mile trip to the HD museum, in two days, I went and made the switch. I am in love with this new bike and will never look back.

Thanks. I loved my chopper but it was a totally different animal. My SO couldn't ride with me so it was time to be a good boy and buy something that we both could enjoy. <g>

Same here. The wife liked the Train, but felt the pain in no time. She LOVES the new ride. Now the only problem I have is finding a reason to get out and ride solo, LOL.
