Default 21" Front Wheel on Bagger?

I have seen a few pictures of baggers with a 21" wheel on the front. Makes the bike look so different and really stand out. I love how it fills out the entire fender and want to do this on my Street Glide.

My question is what else do you have to do to make it fit? Or is it simply a swap out of the existing 16" wheel to the 21" wheel? What about the ride and handling differences?

Why does HD put the 16" wheel on the baggers any way? A higher load rating???

Get a hold of Hogpro for a definite answer, but I believe they are a direct bolt on. However, most people convert to a single disc when they change to a 21. This would require a new lower leg on the side that is losing the brake (usually right side). It's not a bad idea to limit the braking power when going from a fat 16 tire to a skinny 21 tire in my opinion. Most people probably do it to see more of the wheel. There is lots of pics of this conversion on the Hogpro site.

No reason to drop the dual rotors, the matching wheel/rotor combos look great on a 21" front. Still think a 21" looks kinda pimpish on a bagger, I would do 18's max, front and rear.

Oh it does look a little pimpish... But I like the custom look to it. Really makes the bike jump out at you!

I stand corrected. I just went through the bagger gallery on the Hogpro site and only found 1 bike in the entire lot with a 21" that converted to single disc. So while I have seen people do it in person, it would appear that "most" people stick with dual discs when converting to a 21" front. On a 90 or 100/21, I still say the dual discs are too much braking power, but it looks like most are going to that 120/21 which has a lot more rubber on the road.

Post pics if you go with it.

I have a 90/90/21 tire on my bike for a different and more custom look. The 21 in the front and 18 in the rear makes a big different in the handling department. Much better IHMO.

PIMPS UP AND HOs DOWN! I got the 21 front and I love it. With the 120/70-21 tire you have as much, if not more tire on the ground. I went with the single disk for a clean look. For safety I used a PM 13" rotor and a PM 6-piston caliper. I can out brake my buddies with the factory dual disks. When going to a single side caliper you have to change out the master cylinder to an 11/16 bore (from a softail/FatBoy etc..). Good luck your friendly neighborhood pimp.

James - I really like the look of your scoot. I can see how the shorter and stiffer sidewall of the 21/18 would help handling as well as side to side transitions. I'm sure the bike feels like it handles quicker, but do you think it can be pushed as hard with the 21? I have seriously considered swapping my 18 fornt for a 21, but would like some input. I ride pretty hard and do not want to lose anything from my current 18/18 combo.

Thanks,
BZ

Fooo shizzzelll my nizzle. You can push the 21 just as much if not more. The tire is Z rated (149+ MPH) and the 21 is taller meaning that you need less revolutions to cover the same distance. Can you go faster on Lance Armstrong's bike with a 26" tire or on my daughter's Strawberry Shortcake bike with a 16" tire? (it's a rhitorical question, no lude comments please).
