The problem I have with the manual is that it only recommends Formual+ or SYN3 in the tranny and primary. Gear oil works better in both of those (IMO) so I will not use SYN3 and I can't get a straight answer as to what exactly Formula+ is, I'm not a big fan of magical mystery oil. The way I see it, in order for Formula+ to be compatable in the primary it can't be any heavier than a 90w gear oil (IF it is a gear oil) which in my opinion is a little too light for the tranny. And yes, I do realize Harley-Davidson transmissions are designed and tested using Formula+ but I'm still not sold on that stuff.

do not use 75/90 or any other gear oil in your primary. regular 20-50 dino oil will work just fine, and i've heard of many using atf, although i've not used it in the primary. i have been using royal purple 20-50 max cycle also, but i do believe it is allowing the clutch to not have as much grab as the dino 20-50. the heavy weight 75-90 is only for use in the trans, not the primary. i use 75-140 royal purple in my trans, and it shifts sweet, is not noisy at all. great stuff, but only for the trans, not for the primary.
Most new cars and trucks have ATF fluild in manual trans. Also race bikes use atf fluid alot of times its made for clutches. In my 07 ultra classic ATF syn worked better than mobil 1 syn had a little slippage with mobil 1, but i use mobil 1 in the other 2 holes
