I enjoy doing my on service work. Got nothing against dealers, just don't want those guys to have all of the fun! And I save a few $$$ at the same time.

Invest $60 in the manual. You'll feel manlier and appreciate your bike a bit more.

Do my own and it sure saves $$$. Besides a service manual, a good lift/jack is necessary.

Did all the service on my '03. Let the dealer do the 1,000 mile service. I figure if there are going to be any major problems, they will probably show up before 5000 miles and I can't be hassled about warranty. I will do the rest myself, and save about 300 bucks.

I did my own 1K and will do all from here on out. "It's a Harley, not rocket science."

I have and always do all my own services and work. Bike has never been back to the dealer for anything at all.

Buy the service manual and do it all yourself.............saves a ton of money, and you will learn all about your bike while you're at it.

I let the dealer do the 1000 with dino oil, then changed to synthetic at around 2000. Then I did it again at 5 and 10. Bike has never been back to the dealer.

The way I see it, I save about $230 doing it myself. After reviewing the 1K service check-list, the only things that are replaced is the engine oil, filter and transmission fluid. Other than that most everthing else is inspected or adjusted which brings me to a question, how crucial is it to adjust the primary chain? Since there are no throttle cables there should be no adjustment required and the head bearings are greased by the zirk fitting near the neck. I think I'll take the $230 I'm saving and put it towards a goodie or two. Here's a check list I found for anyone who is interested. http://cdn-9.psndealer.com/e2/dealer...%20Touring.pdf
