Default Road King Windscreen Finger Loops

Those wire finger loops on the wind screen near the upper mount - do they actually do anything? Why are they there?

They are supposed to be bent down to latch the ws so it won't be blown off by that 18 wheeler going at 90mph when you are pulled over on the side of the interstate. The finger loops are just that,to put your finger in to pull up to remove the ws.

Good question as I really don't see how they do anything to secure the windshield whatsoever. They are just kind of there.....

Don't think they do a lot, but they are a secondary security for holding shield in place. They should fit behind the rubber and stay firm. There are a couple nuts on ths shield frame and these latches are like springs and can be adjusted for a good fit.

+1 on that! The wind from riding will hold it on, but when it's parked the wind can definitely blow it off. I've seen them flop right over on several occassions.

I always wondered why they were there on my RK also, they really didn't seem to do anything

Most of the time they really don't, but as mentioned it is usually becasue they need to be tweaked a little. They bend upwards in normal use and eventually you need to take the shield off and bend the springs down so far it actually hard to get the shield back on the bike without 3 hands-two to hold up the springs and a third to pull back on the shield. The springs should be pressing themselves snuggly into the rubber bushings when the shield is in place. You'd be amazed how many LEO windshields blow off on highway shoulders when semis go by.

I think the only reason they are there is so you know when the shield is all the way on and lined up. There is no way they can secure it in any way.

Man, you guys need to look more closely at how your windshield attaches.

69z28 is absolutely correct. You pull them up to remove your windshield and if they are not pushed down over the rubber grommets then your windshield is just sitting on your bike and not secure.

When riding at speed, the wind pressure will keep your windshield in place but when parked or in town riding the shield can be blown off by wind from the rear if the wire is not fastened over the grommets.
