Default 06 Ultra rebuild

I'd like some advice please, I want to do a 124" rebuild on my stock 06 Ultra. I'm going to have a Baker DD6 gearset installed and a one plus pan. I'm not sure about a 124" kit. I'm leaning toward an S&S kit with new heads. What are some thoughts? I don't know any quality builders here in MI so I am looking at having it done by a dealership. Can anyone give me the headsup on a local builder that does quality work other than a dealer? Appreciate the help.

I would have your crank sent out to Darkhorse to be be pinned and welded and have your cases bored and have the proper oilers installed. There are many like HQ that have high builds they offer.

I'd go with the S&S 124" Hot Setup kit. You'll need to do the timken bearing conversion and while you're at it, have the crankpin welded. For an extra $100 you can add the anti-knock sensor. Very reliable with plenty of room for growth. Dollar for dollar, probably your best value.

Yeah, the S&S 124ci hot set up kit is a nice peice of gear.

http://s207.photobucket.com/albums/b...z/Micks124SnS/

This album has come pics of my build. The motor is really strong in the mid range, and then get her up on the cam and she screams.

I still havent done a custom map, I am running the S&S canned map that cam with the kit. She is quite lean in the mid range, and too rich up high, but even so is running 124hp / 123 tq. Next service we are gonna build a custom map and she should be in the 130s.

At the strip with the screen on and tools in the bags we weighed 1050lb and the best run was 12.25 @108mph, so she is quick as. Once the remap is done she will be in the 11s. I have put a shift light on her now and that helps get the best out of the motor.

Have a look at the pics - the quality of the forgings and machining is excellent. The triple valve springs and drilled retainers are very neat, their roller rockers and forged supports look the biz. Just a quality kit wherever you look.

We added a feulling cam support plate and oil pump too, which I would advise as a wise choice of your 06. The fuelling pump has 20% more supply and 60% more scavenge than the stock pump, and the plate is much stronger with much larger oil galleries than stock.

Are you going to go with an S&S VFI system, carby or SE induction???

Thanks for the input. Pics are great, nice ride. I am leaning towards an S&S VFI system.

FYI, I'm running the VFI with closed loop 02. The knock sensor came out after I put mine together. I didn't add it because I have no issues with knocking. I have only praise for the VFI.
In an older motor (pre-07) I'd suggest adding the Screaming Eagle hydraulic tensioner upgrade. The kit comes with the new high volume oil and a much beefer cam plate. To install the S&S gear drives you just don't install the tensioners. You can get the whole kit for about $350 which is cheaper than just the fueling oil pump...

Any problems with the DD6? It's been suggested a OD6 would be a better match. Very nice bike BTW, sharp paint.

I had some seal issues with the DD6. Finally tracked it down to a VERY small burr on the spacer that goes against the quad seal. I went with the DD6 because I needed everything, e.g. chain, compensator sprocket, transmission pulley, EVERYTHING. If I was uggrading a HD to a 6 speed my choice would be dependent on the existing final drive ratio. I had a 99 Road King with a 3:37 final ratio with a 31 tooth trans pulley. I installed a Jim's 6 speed OD (same as Baker) to take advantage of this gearing. If you are running the later 3:15 ratio it won't make much difference either way.
