Just wondered what everyone gets on their electra glides. I purchased an 09 and it gets about 36 mpg regardless of 55-60 on the country roads or 70-80 on the freeway with the wife. I've got 8887 miles on it, so it is broken in. These bikes are rated at 50+ on the freeway, just wondered if that is realistic or not.
Nope. Stock I was getting 36-40mpg. After my tuner, A/C, and pipes (FuleMoto). I am getting about 40mpg... Have seen 46 on flat highway at 70mph... Have seen mid 30's in bad winds...
39-44mpg with my typical riding but avg 40 like other guys. Havn't done a very long interstate type trip but I'd suspect alittle higher numbers. I really didn't notice a significant change in mpg when I installed PC-V and SE/AC and it runs a whole lot better.
Hello troller, I have an 09 as well. last month i took it on a 1682 mile trip from houston to fla and back, riding solo. [230 lbs] and 40 lbs of luggage, i averaged 43.3 mpg. and i wasnt easy on it. Many of miles spent at 75 to 85 mph. and while in fla, it was bike week in panama beach, so was spending lots of time paradeing it. the bike is box stock and at that time only had 1002 miles on it when starting trip.
Im sure if i went easy on it, i could of gotten 48 mpg no prob.
Thanks for the question, it got me to finally work the numbers on last months road trip. My bike is a bone stock 09 Roadglide that is running great just as is. The trip from Washington state began with 5975 miles on the bike and ended back home with 11432 on her after a visit to Missouri. Min mileage was 42.7, Avg 47.7 and Max 52.7.
But then, Roadglides do get better mileage than Electaglides.

I'm averaging around 38 mpg in my local riding. I've gotten pretty much the same in freeway riding at 70 mph or so. Playing aound in the Arkansas and Missouri Ozarks I get in the low 40's fairly easily and the best I've done was just over 46 mpg but that's proven to be pretty rare.
As for Harley's claim of 50+ mpg fuel economy, that's a generic estimate for the touring family as a whole, and does not necessarily apply to the Ultra Classic. A standard Road King will probably make that kind of economy without too much trouble but don't expect it out of an Ultra Classic.
I haven't gone on any long hwy trips yet. I purchased my FLHTP about 6 weeks ago. I get about 42 to 43 combined hwy and city riding with my wife on the back. I have 103 cubic inch engine with V & H dual oval slip ons and screaming eagle air cleaner with the 6200 rpm upgrade. Not sure what kind of tuning they did, but it has incredible power.
