I have added pics of my stock compensator. Notice the TWO springs inside, one thicker than the other. These are what take the initial load off the crank and are not heavt enough. I also added the parts page for the new compensator which clearly shows the difference in the two.

Bottom line, it's better.

I assumed you had just miss spoke and I wanted to clarify for those who may not know the inner workings of these Comp. I was impressed with how they got such bigger springs in the same overall size package, it is a much better product for the higher hosepower engines.

Does the SE compensator remove all of the driveline lash (the irregular and sudden jerks we get when slowing down and sometimes idling at low speed) that the IDS and stock engine compensator is suppose to? If so I think the SE compensator would be worth the money.

Default SE Compensator

I've called several Harley dealers looking for the SE Compensator and there are not to be had here in Central Florida. I found a stock one and may have to do one of those until I can find the SE version. Mine sounds like it's going to rip out when I start the bike. The part number was 40296-06A on the stock version. Do you reckon MOCO has come out with a upgraded version or has the stock one always had an "A" suffix??? Got to do something soon, the Jap bike boys are giving me friendly hell.....!!

It's really worth the money if you do the swap yourself. If not, then it's kinda a choice tween bling and keeping the scoot running properly longer.

Not many, but several OEM comp sprockets have failed with disastorous results at hwy speed. The guys less injured managed to grab the clutch quicker.

In my mind, it's just another item HD should replace free, but that will never happen.

My starter gives me fits after 38k miles so i am wondering if it's actually my starter..sounds like it's sometimes skipping and a grinding noise comes out of it....Almost like on a car when the battery is weak...

If yours is acting like this I would seriously look at the starter gear or the ring gear in the primary. Check both for wear or damage.
Just a thought?

Ordered my SE Big Twin Compensator PN 40274-08
last Saturday and they called me Thursday to come pick it up.
Now I need to find a good deal on a Hi Torque Starter and put it all in while I have the Primary open.
