Default Seat for 1996 Road King

Not much I could find regarding availability of aftermarket seats for 1996 RK's. I want one with a backrest. Seems there was a frame change in 97 so 96 and older seats for RK's are rare. I found one from Mustang, but the price is very high ($500). Any ideas where I might look?

Corbin, but expect to pay at least $500. I have had several Corbin seats over the years and have been please with all of them.

I have a '96 RK with a Corbin solo. Actually, I have two--a regular and a close-up, and have been using the latter since about '99. If you're not in a hurry you might check on Ebay, as I read about someone who bought a Corbin solo for $80, but didn't mention the condition. The frames for FLH's changed in '97 making the seats for '94-'96 RK's unique to these earlier bikes, and later seats will not fit, making it more difficult to find a used seat.

The backrests are universal and should be easier to find. Ebay would be a good bet there, too. If you want to retain the black/chrome stud effect of this model RK it'll be more difficult finding a used item, especially a backrest.

I'm average height (5' 10") and found the regular solo seat to be a bit too far back, about 2" further than the stock RK seat. I later purchased the close-up and it is perfect for me at 2" closer, more like stock. The backrest is a necessity for long trips IMO.

Look on Ebay for a used Corbin! There are normally a few available there.

This might not help, but if your current seat is in good shape and your just wanting a backrest, you can go with something like what I've got. It's by Khrome Werks. It's adjustable and lays down forward to make it easier for passenger to get on.
