Arrow is anything wrong??

was down at the lone star rally today looking for a parking spot and bike started to get pretty hot. the rear cylinder activation was kicking in a few times and we all know how you have to "crack" the throttle to get both cylinders firing before you can pull away from a light, etc. well as i was pulling away i forgot to kick it in and it sort of "backfired" or "kicked back" through the heavy breather. a cloud of black smoke kicked out into the air. did i screw something up? bike seems to run ok i guess. hard to tell if any difference. do i need to clean plugs for carbon? any help appreciated...by the way..the rally was packed. lows in the 50's and highs in the 70's with not a cloud in site. must have been over 100000 people....

Mine puffed a grey cloud of smoke at a stop light today and it was only 60 degrees outside. It ran fine afterwards. I am taking it to the shop that did my PCV and Tune to see if there is something that can be done to fix it. I stopped by today and they said this happened to another 09 they had worked on too.

I had the same issue last week. After a 2 hour non-stop highway ride, I hit some red lights going through the city. The bike dropped out the rear cylinder and when I cracked the throttle it backfired and sent a huge cloud of black smoke out the air cleaner. Bike started right back up and does not act like anything is wrong with it.

Will be interesting to see what others have done about this.

Nothing to worry about. You didn't hurt it and don't need to clean the plugs. Ride on.
