So it seems most of you guys recommend the Heritage bars on the Roadking. Can these bars be swapped without changing cables and wires? Is this a do it yourself mod?
I really love the fatboy, and if I had the offer to trade my 02 king straight up for an 07 or later Fatboy, I'd do it, but I really enjoy my road king too, and i'm glad I got it. You'll love your Road King.
I have the Road King High Bars on my 05. I'm 5'10" and they are perfect for me. No cable or wire changes. I have the Sundowner Solo which I sent to Mean City and had lowered 2". 400 miles a day, three days in a row, and no sore butt.
Fantastic choice! The Roadking does it all, except tunes. Check out http://www.wild1inc.com/ handlebars. I'm getting the 518's. I'm reaching myself, so I'm trying these bars first before a new seat.
You did the right thing.....going with the King! I am 5'9" and I just recently put 1" lower rear shocks on mine and it got me lowered without having to spend a ton on a new seat as I really don't have a problem with the stock seat.
You are doing the right thing. Well if you want to ride all day and not be worn out when you're through that is.
I had an 07 Fat Boy and loved it, but would never go back since getting a Touring bike.
Unless I get to the stage of just doing short bar hopper rides.
I know guiy who can and do ride theirs all day and don't think a thing about it.
I also know guys on Sportsters who do that too, but it ain't gonna be me.

I went from a '06 Softail Deluxe (now my wife's) to a '06 Road King with Heritage bars and an Electra Glide seat. You'll love the RK over the softail. I'm 6'2" and the RK fit me much better. More comfortable ride. I just moved up to a 2010 Ultra Limited. I tell you what, it is a better ride that's for sure. But I still miss the RK, oh well, time to move on. JR.
My first Harley was a 1998 Fatboy... In 2003 I bought a Road King... didn't have much interest riding the Fatboy after that so I sold it... I think you will be very happy with your choice. Congratulations!
