Default Decided on a new Road King!

I placed an order for a 2010 Fatboy in early October and was told delivery would be 6-8 weeks. Dealer called me last week and said HD temporarily stopped production of the Softails in order to move existing inventory. Touring models so far are not affected. I was on the fence originally anyway between the Fatboy and RK so I decided to switch my order to a RK. This way I should get the new bike a month sooner and it will already have the windshield, engine guard and hard bags that I would eventually have added to the Fatboy anyway.

I'm not a big guy so I will need to get a seat that gets me a bit lower and also get some risers and/or pullback bars. Anyone put the Heritage bars on their RK and how did they work for you? Any other recommendations for pullback type handle bars and lower seats? I'm aware of the HD reach seat and reach bars, but that's about it at this point. Thanks!

Can't help you on the seat or bars but I can say that you absolutely, positively made the right choice.

I agree, you made a wise choice. As they say, it's good to be the king. My pop loves his RK. Congrats.

I put the Heritage Style bars on my king and also put a mustang solo seat. the bars made a big difference in the comfort(between my shoulder blades), the seat set me a little lower (1 inch or so), but I'm not short (6'-1"). you'll love the king over the fatboy. I initially went in to buy a fatboy and salesman said at my size fatboy wouldn't be right! He actually told me to come look at Heritage....but once I rode the king I was sold....but 6 months later I went and bought my wife the heritage...so now I have both lol....of course poorer than sh*t now!

Excellent choice going with the King, you will never regret it.
I am 6'3" and got the heritage style bars for the opposite reason that you are considering.....but you will end up with what and how you want.
Sundowner 2-up seat settled me in just right for a more softail feel to the ride...but it's not a softail.
It's better.

I originally wanted a Fatboy or a Streetglide but my saleman steered me to a Roadking although I knew about them already. The fatboy would have been too small and the Streetglides suspension would have been a problem.I'm 6ft. and 275lb+ The RK fit me very well especially after I put the Heritage bars on.They are the same as the RK police bars.Bike fits me well and am very happy.Didn't want a tour box or radio so RK all the way.Hope this helps.

The RK is a fantastic machine. Mine has been a joy since Day One and keeps running better and better as the miles pile up. Zero problems, very comfortable, handles like a dream and very easy to ride. I also love the "convertible" nature of the RK as I love to remove the windshield for short local rides. On longer trips at freeway speeds or when it gets cold the windshield is awesome. Congrats on your new bike.

I owned a 05 FB and I liked the the way it sat over the RK in its stock form. Once you get the RK dialed in you won't be unhappy with your purchase. The stock bar SUCK. First mod I did was put the Heritage style bars on mine, big improvement over the stock bars. I plan on putting some apes on this winter as soon as I decide on what size. Enjoy your new ride.
