By the looks of how deep the chain is on this tensioner I'd be changing them asap. Your chain pins are almost touching the un-worn part of the pad. JMO

seems interesting your checking with the calipers but your not checking where the actual wear is on the shoe..

thanks for the replies. i'll take everyones advice & replace them. from what i've found searching ths site, it seems i am no where near replacing them. i need to pull the tank, rocker covers, pushrod covers & the cam plate. most of which will be all new to me.just to clarify, the only reason for the picture with the caliper was to verify if that is the portion the manual refers to as the shoe thickness.

Your welcome to bring it to Vermont anytime and I'd help ya do the work if you like. Don't know what exit you're from in Joisey, but I grew up on the Vernon border and it's a 4 hour trip from there to here. With the manual it is pretty easy. I would suggest going hydraulic if you plan on keeping the scoot for a long time. There's some other tips and suggestions that I would have along the way as well.

thanks, that's a real kind offer. i really appreciate it. i have a service manual. with that & some searching on the forum i hope to be able to get thu it. i'm not new to wrenching, just new to wrenching on harley motors.i'll keep your hydaulic suggestion in mind. that's the kind of suggestions i need, as i'm not sure which way i'm going on this(gear drive cams, hydraulic).i need to spend some time searching & reading my manual.by the way, small world - i pay my taxes to vernon twp..
