I don't know if you will happy with other shocks since it sounds like you have tried a few already. You didn't say if you tried longer travel. That may help you.
I don't have a problem with the suspension on my SG I run about 20lbs solo.
Have you actually riden a hardtail? I used to have one. I don't think that is possible that the SG would feel like that no matter what you set the shocks at.
I appreciate all the help/comments ...back ground.. I have an 08 SG and have no problem with the rear suspension for that matter my 09 SE springer, or BMW 1200 GSA, I weigh 200lbs typical air pressure stock shocks was 10-15 lbs solo, 25-30 lbs 2-up. the new progressive 440's are alittle better but still bone jarring over anything but smooth road.
"I have a 09 rk with a corbin classic solo seat, my problem I need to solve is the mushy front suspension. I'm looking hard at a one inch drop and hoping this would stiffin up the front end and add the hd low pro rear shocks. what I don't want is to bottom thr front into the fender. anyone else do this, have problems, input. thx"
You didn't mention the non-HD saddle and your front end work. Perhaps part of your issue?
I rode a bone stock 09 the other day...The suspension seemed fine...But the seat really sucked...There are a lot of factors in motorcycle comfort...Handlebar to seat relationship...leg position...Bar height ...Rider posture.
I like the Arnott air ride system I bought to lower my 09 Ultra. I ride at 80 lbs in the system for a softer ride. When the road is rough I go to 90 lbs. I paid around $700 on sale. I think they also give a discount for HD Forum members. I installed it in about 90 minutes. Had it about 14 months with no problem. Love it.

This may sound stupid but my wife says I'm good at that so here it goes ...
a) Try adjusting your 440s to the stiffest setting. They come set to the softest setting. I weigh 190 and that works for me.
b) Make sure you have the standard and not the heavy duty springs on them.
c) Make sure you have them installed correctly with the supplied washer against the bike/fender, then the shoulder of the supplied insert against that washer, then the shock, then the outer washer, then the bolt. The directions aren't exactly clear and the Progressive tech I spoke with agreed and said he gets questions on what they mean all the time. He said they should either be re-written or have a better diagram with them.
