07 Road King "coughing"
Help. My 07 Road King "coughs" or kind of "stutters" while cruising down the road at relatively low RPM's. If I'm accelerating or powering up a hill it doesn't seem to do it. I'm getting aggravated at the bike. The computer isn't showing any codes to suggest a problem. I've burned through many different tanks of gas. The trouble seemed to start a short time after I put a set of pipes and a fuel pack on the bike. That could be pure coincidence though. I removed it all out of frustration and the bike is back to stock. It still does it. I'm at my wit's end.

First thing I would check is the plugs. You may have richened it up a little too much with the fuel pack, and just slighlty started to foul them where they don't put out as much spark.
Not saying it is the problem, but the cheapest and easiest to start with

If you're running Sell fuel or anything other brand with ethanol or octane below 92 octane it will not run good. I found that out the hard way. My '07 Road King Classic had the same kind of symptoms after using Shell fuel.

Reaching for straws here, but an easy enough thing to try would be to run a few tankfulls of Shell or BP (93) with quality fuel injector cleaner added. I like Techron or Seafoam.

i had that problem when i got bad gas at the local chevron station. i filled up with premium from another station, put in a couple ounces of marvel mystery oil, and changed my plugs (autolite 4164). been running great since.

My '03 Ultra does the same thing. Usually when cruising between 2000 and 2800 rpm. I will have to check the plugs and throw some Seafoam in. I noticed it today after filling up at a "off brand" station but I have noticed it after using "name brand" gas as well.

That happened to me right after my 103 upgrade on my 2008 Ultra. It did it when I started the bike in cold weather. I would pull over and put gas and it would stop doing it. It only did it once in a blue moon but nobody could figure it out. It did it 3 times within the first 2000 miles after the 103 build and it has not happened since. I now have 13,000 miles later and no more problems. Try turning the bike off and on again to see if the computer resets.
