Default 103 build for drill team

I would like to do a 103 build to my 2007 RK. The problem is this will also be used as a drill team bike as well as a two-up touring bike. I was thinking of going with a cnc porting job to the heads this includes 1.900 intake valves and a cam change.
The head porter suggest an andrews 26 grind. But he can tell me when this cam will start to produce power on my bike. As for the clutch i was just going to go with the screaming eagle spring.

I would like to have very controlable power in the 1200 to 2200 rpm range.

Any suggestions or concerns will be heard.

The Andrews 26 is a pretty mild cam that gives good low and mid-range power. I personally think head porting and larger valves are overkill with this cam.

I would suggest talking to some head porters about what you want out of the build. Let them guide you too a cam and compression package that will give you what you want.

I have a Head Quarters 103ST package that I am very happy with. It has very good power and also starts easy, runs smooth and quiet, has very good low speed manners. I know of at least one HQ 120" build on this forum that gets used in competition style riding as well. Talk to PhilM.

Go with the Andrews 37's

The 26's just run out of juice to fast, especially if you are porting your heads.

Dunn - Have you had any luck with S&S 570's in a similar build as the OP is asking about? I would think with an oversize INT valve and the compression corrected to a range the cams are designed for, these would work well. Should have a little broader curve with slightly higher numbers than the 37's I would think.

Just curious.

Biggzed,

Are you rethinking the 1.900 int. if I go with the S&S 570 for a cam or would you still stick with the stock valve and some other combination.

Here is what I'm thinking:

Stock heads untouched - Andrews 26
Heads ported w/ stock valves - Andrews 37
Heads ported w/ 1.9 INT valves - S&S 570

Anytime you take the heads off you have the opportunity to equalize chamber volume (if it is off), set the compression to the cam specs, and set the desired squish (.030 - .035). The 37's and the 570's would benefit from a bump in compression. The 26's would not IMO.

There are much smarter people than me on this board when it comes to this stuff. I'm sure they will chime in here.

I am on the Fort Lauderdale Harley Davidson Drill Team and the guys that have done that in the past have had their engines run much hotter than the stockers. All of us run stock engines now.

I'm on the Central Florida Drill Team, and have a 103 with 255 cams ,new heads, etc. It runs hot in the summer months, and I'm probably killing the life of the engine, but its worth it.
