How many of youse guys take your bikes to the dealer for the check ups? You know 1000,5000 ones. My dealer wants $300.00 for the first one.
If I take it to a non Harley place will they give me hell on my warranty?
Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975 covers your warranty concerns. You can use an Indy. Better yet, buy the HD service manual and do it yourself. It's not hard.
99483-09 service manual
99497-09 electric diagnostics manual
99456-09A parts manual
Then if you don't have tools get someone to head to Sears tomorrow and pick up both inch pound and torque pound wrenches for half price (like $38 each) and some good torx bits and wrenches and sockets.
if you have a good dealer they will take care of your warranty issues. If you have an bad dealer they will hassle you. That being said. My bike is an 07 fxdc with 41,000 miles it has never been serviced at the dealer. And i have had rocker box leak fixed under warranty, new chrome console replaced chipping chrome, and my front master cylinder cap seal replaced twice.
My dealer told me no matter what i did to my bike as long as it didn't cause the issue then it would be covered under warranty. Another words if you change your pipes and put in a tuner and you program it wrong very very wrong and mess up something you may have issues but if you put in the tuner and its running good and you got it set up right and your motor blows then all you need to have is your reciepts for your oil changes and you should be ok. Hopefully i never need to find this out.
But a buddy at works new 09 motor went out and they hassled him a little because he couldn't find the reciepts for his oil changes he did but they did end up covering it and he did end up finding the receipts after they said they would cover it.
You’re in Grand Prairie, Texas (that's smack in the middle of Dallas - Ft. Worth for you non Texas people).
If you have trouble with warranty, find another dealer. The service departments are the only thing making money for dealership right now. I don't think they woould turn down warranty work.
Use an Indy if you want to. Just keep all paperwork and receipts.
Doing it yourself is the only way to make sure its done right. Get ya a manual. thats my opinion.
That's always been my motivation. I simply don't trust another person to do the best job possible and I'm not being driven my the "book" as far as how long I'm supposed to take to get the job done.
Do my own also, took it in for the 1K then for tires @ 16.4K it came back from tires with a gouge in the chrome on one muffler, gouge on the rear rim and a loose belt. Hate to pay somebody to f*#k up my bike
